Ballroom Smooth

Ballroom dancing is derived from the word ball (in Latin ballare) which means \'to dance\'. The dance techniques used for both International Standard and American smooth are similar, but International allows only closed dance positions, whereas American allows closed, open and separated dance movements. Smooth dances include the Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz and Quickstep. The music is usually mid-twentieth century American and Western European music. In competititions, the women wear full gowns, and the men wear bow tie and tail coats.
